5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that sits at the intersection of NAD+ availability and SAM-dependent methylation.

In a 2018 study, diet-induced obese mice given daily 5-Amino-1MQ showed reduced body weight, lower white-fat mass, and smaller fat cells, with no change in how much they ate.

Cell studies tie this to higher intracellular NAD+ and suppressed fat storage, which is driving continued research into its role in fat metabolism and mitochondrial energy.
