IGF-1 DES

IGF-1 DES is des(1-3)IGF-1, a truncated form of insulin-like growth factor 1 missing its first three N-terminal amino acids, which sharply reduces its binding to IGF binding proteins and leaves more free peptide available to activate the IGF-1 receptor.

In rodent and cell studies, this translated into greater potency than native IGF-1, with local administration driving satellite cell activation, increased muscle fiber cross-sectional area, and elevated protein synthesis.

These findings are feeding continued research into IGFBP-independent IGF-1 signaling and its role in localized muscle and tissue growth.
