AOD-9604 is a modified fragment of human growth hormone corresponding to amino acids 176 to 191, the region linked to HGH’s fat metabolizing activity but not its growth promoting effects.

Early rodent studies and small clinical trials found it stimulated lipolysis and reduced fat accumulation without altering blood sugar or IGF-1 levels.

A larger phase 2b trial in obese patients, however, did not find statistically significant weight loss compared to placebo.

These modest and mixed human results have shifted continued research toward understanding the gap between its lipolytic activity in cell and animal models and its clinical performance.
