DSIP

DSIP, or Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide, is a nonapeptide first isolated from the cerebral blood of sleeping rabbits and studied for its influence on slow-wave sleep and the body’s stress response.

Research suggests it interacts with NMDA and GABA signaling to modulate the thalamocortical rhythms tied to deep sleep, rather than acting as a primary sleep trigger.

A double-blind study in chronic insomnia patients found improved sleep efficiency and shorter sleep latency with DSIP compared to placebo, and animal studies show it blunts stress-induced corticotropin release.

These findings continue to drive research into its role in sleep architecture and HPA axis regulation.
